Back pain could be alleviated by adjustable beds

It has been suggested that adjustable beds can ease discomfort caused by back pain.  According to research conducted by a group of primary care physicians seven out of ten doctors are likely to recommend sitting in a reclined position to help alleviate back pain. This is because reclining offers total support, removing the strain, which adjustable beds can offer.

‘More than 80% of adults will suffer from back pain at some point in their lives, and treating back pain is often very time consuming and costly’ according to Dr D David who is a board certified physician. He stated that a good, firm mattress such as a memory foam mattress or an adjustable bed, to make getting in and out of bed less painful should be encouraged as treatment options within the home.

At Great British Mobility we have a range of mattresses, such a Memory Reflexion (see Fig 1) which relieves pressure problems with its pioneering layered design, we also have Reflex Foam, Luxury Pocket Sprung (see Fig 2) and Cool Plus, which is upholstered in a technically advanced material that wicks moisture away from the skin and then helps it to rapidly evaporate. At Great British Mobility we also offer a range of adjustable beds, which are complete with a five-fold, electrically-operated slatted base, with a choice of settings, this helps to gain a great night’s sleep.

The leading neck and head surgeon Dr Steven Park, who is also a member of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine states that the best position for sleeping is on your back with your head elevated by between 10 -30%. This position can reach optimal blood circulation and help with breathing, adjustable beds can reach this position. Legs should also be slightly elevated with the person being on their back.
